BIOGRAPHY

Audley Sue Wing was born in Tunapuna on the 16th of August 1939, the first of eight siblings. He started drawing at an early age and was encouraged by his first tutor M.P. Alladin.

Early works in pencil, charcoal, pastel and gouache were exhibited at the Evening Institute and Bi-annual Art Festivals. At 15 he met Sybil Atteck and Evril Rawle who introduced him to oil painting and junior membership to the Trinidad Art Society.
Sue Wing studied with foreign and local artist at the British Council and attended exhibitions, impressed particularly by the work of Sybil Atteck, Carlisle Chang, Joseph Cromwell Assee and Nina Lamming. He received art and design instructions from Carlisle Chang and painted with Sybil Atteck. Like other young artists he sought to create his own identity and exhibited regularly at art galleries. His work was also shown at the VII and VIII Sao Paulo Bienals.

Sue Wing’s New Dawn was awarded Best Work of Art at the 1962 Inaugural Independence Art Exhibition and his work is included in many of the leading corporate and private collections. Published references include Through the Eye of the Artist, Shared Visions, the Central Bank Art Collection and Chinese Artists of Trinidad and Tobago. Sue Wing’s art education embraces London College of Printing, School of Visual Arts and Art Students League in New York and University of the West Indies graduating with a Visual Arts Special Honours degree.
Sue Wing died of cancer on 15 March 2016.
